Breathing Through Covid is an original production created by the Company of NPHS Theatre & Thespian Troupe 5464. The show is a collection of impressions, experiences, and reflections on 2020 during the Time of Covid.
Beginning as an idea and brainstorming sessions in July of 2020, it evolved over the next months as the casts for each segment met once a week in Google Meets. Through discussions, research, improvisation, breakout writing sessions, inspiration, and sharing of individual work, each cast discovered how their topic wanted to "breathe" in form, content, and performance. Our technical students joined in for costume suggestions, recording sessions, the search for photographs and backgrounds, and editing. The NP Theatre Guild delivered ring lights and green screens to the performers' homes for the recording sessions. While a few segments were recorded in socially distanced sessions outdoors at North Penn High School, the majority were recorded by the students themselves in bedrooms, living rooms, backyards -- just as we have lived the past months.
Many adults have wondered what our kids are thinking, feeling, hoping. Breathing Through Covid is their thoughts, their feelings, their dreams for a future after the pandemic. For the show, we have taken Shakespeare's advice spoken through Hamlet, to present theatre as "[for] the purpose of playing, whose end, both at the first and now, was and is, to hold, as 'twere, the mirror up to nature."

Breathing Through Covid is being streamed on Friday, January 29 and Saturday, January 30 at 8:00 PM, with two streamed performances on Sunday, January 31 at 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM. Links to the events are posted at www.npenn.org/theatre
